Full Space Copy
How to use it · Last updated: 27 September 2026
Open Full Space Copy
Open it from the Apps menu of Confluence, then choose a space at the top of the page. You can also open it from the settings of a space you administer: it then works on that space directly.
Every tab works on the chosen space. Lists only show spaces you administer.
Who can use it
- Copying a whole space requires being an administrator of the source space and having the permission to create spaces on the site. Without that permission, only branch copies are offered.
- Every other operation requires administering the spaces involved: the source and the destination of a branch copy, both spaces of a comparison or a synchronization, the space of a bulk action.
- Permissions are checked by Confluence on every action, not only when the screen opens.
- A site administrator can limit the app to some groups, from the Audit tab, under Who can use Full Space Copy. Site administrators always keep access.
Copy a whole space
- Open the Copy a space tab and choose The whole space.
- Check the overview: it counts the pages, blog posts, attachments, comments and other content, and estimates the copy time.
- Enter the key and the name of the new space. The key accepts letters and digits only.
- Under What to copy, untick what you want to leave out. Pages, folders, whiteboards, databases and links are always copied.
- Under Options, you can add a prefix to every page title or replace a text in titles, give each page back to its original owner, and replay the version history of each page. Links between pages follow the new titles.
- Choose when to copy: now, tonight at 2 am, or another day and hour up to 30 days ahead.
- Click Copy the space.
You can save the contents and options as a configuration, and pick it again for the next copy. Saved configurations are shared with everyone who can copy spaces on the site.
Copy a branch of pages
- Open the Copy a space tab and choose A branch of pages.
- Choose the top page of the branch: it is copied with all its sub-pages.
- Choose the destination space and the page to put the branch under.
- If pages of the destination already have the same titles, add the suggested prefix: Confluence refuses two pages with the same title in a space.
- Click Copy the branch.
A branch copy has no size limit and includes comments and page statuses. Links between pages of the branch point to the copy; links to the rest of the source keep pointing at the source.
Follow a copy
Your copies lists your last 10 copies. While a copy runs, it shows its progress and an estimate of the time left. You can stop a copy and resume it later: it continues where it stopped.
When a copy is finished, open its details to:
- read the copy report, and download it as CSV,
- download the proof dossier, in HTML or JSON, which records who ran the copy, when, with which options, each step, and what could not be copied,
- compare the copy with its source,
- keep the copy up to date with a daily synchronization.
Each copy, with its report and proof dossier, is kept for one year.
What is copied, and what is not
A space copy includes pages, folders, whiteboards, databases, embeds, blog posts, comments, attachments, labels, page properties, restrictions, page statuses, archived pages, page templates, space roles and space settings. Copied comments and blog posts are headed with their original author and date.
Confluence does not let apps copy the following. The copy report lists them at the end of each copy:
- Team calendars: pages that embed one keep showing the source space calendar.
- Sidebar shortcuts: add them again in the new space.
- Space logo: download it at the end of the copy, then drop it in the settings of the new space.
- Page version history: copied only if you tick the option, by replaying each earlier version.
Pages whose restrictions hide them from Full Space Copy are not copied. The report counts them; add Full Space Copy to their view restrictions, or lift those restrictions, before copying.
Compare two spaces
- Open the Compare tab.
- Choose the space to compare with, and click Compare.
The comparison lists every gap: pages missing, extra or under a different parent, different content, labels, attachments, comments or restrictions, and missing or extra blog posts, folders, whiteboards, databases and embeds. Restricted pages the app cannot read are left out and counted. You can download the result as JSON.
Keep a copy up to date
- Open the Synchronize tab.
- Choose the space to keep up to date and how often: every hour, every day or every week.
- Click Create the synchronization. Its first run starts within the hour.
A synchronization carries over page content and titles, where pages sit in the tree, new pages, labels, attachments and blog posts. It never deletes anything from the other space, and comments are not synchronized.
A page someone edited in the other space is left as it is and listed, unless you choose to overwrite such pages. If you copied a space with a title prefix or replacement, create the synchronization from the finished copy, so that it knows the new titles.
You can run a synchronization now, pause it, resume it or delete it. It pauses on its own if the person who created it can no longer read the source or edit the other space.
Bulk actions
- Open the Bulk actions tab.
- Choose which pages: under a page, with a label, not modified for a given time, or matching a CQL query in the advanced options. Each criterion narrows the selection, and the matching pages are counted as you go.
- Choose what to do: move them under another page, archive them, or delete them to the space trash.
- Confirm the count and start.
A bulk action works on up to 5,000 pages, always inside the chosen space. Deleted pages go to the space trash, where an administrator can restore them.
If a copy stops
A copy interrupted by Confluence or by an app update resumes on its own. If it stops for good, Your copies shows the reason. Fix the cause, for example a destination space that was deleted, then click Resume the copy.
Everything the app keeps stays inside Atlassian: see Privacy and security.
